They are of different names but of one intent - To let you know how clever they (virus programmers) are. Hacking into your Systems or Compromising precious datas are just secondary. We are unaware sometimes that there are websites that by just visiting them, it will automatically download some malware stuffs to your PCs. Transfer of files from one PC to another is another thing. Downloading of files from unknown servers can also get you infected. There are also some pop-ups that will trick you to click on them because it's telling you that your PC is infected. To make it a lot more convincing, it will give you a hoax report how badly your PC is hit by some viruses.

I won't be discussing on how to get your PC protected but will just suggest some useful tools when you are already compromised.

Actually, I would only recommend 2 very useful but handy tools to get rid of those malicious stuff trying to take over your PC -
Malwarebytes and Spybot. They are freely downloadable. Get them here: Malwarebytes and Spybot.

What are these stuffs? They are anti-malware, anti-spyware, anti-virus and can be anti-terrorist in some way. Just download, install and scan. Make sure you run the updates before scanning. Spybot by the way, will require you to immunize the PC. Just follow the on-screen prompt.
